JESSICA WATSON AUSTRALIA’S AROUND THE WORLD SAILING HERO RETURNS TO SYDNEY

photo and drawing from Sydney Morning Herald

Today Jessica Watson, the 16-year-old around the world sailor returns to Sydney Harbour.  A hero’s welcome greets her as she sails through the heads after seven months of circumnavigating the world.

Her little pink boat sailed right past my bay, Botany Bay, early this morning on her way to the cheers of 100,000 spectators lining the harbour foreshore and nearly 2000 welcoming craft.

She withstood the self-boasting negative criticism of many who stayed on the shore to tell her how she could have done it better. All the credit belongs to Jessica who actually set sail into the unknown and ends her personal journey in triumph and high achievement. She is an inspiration to all of us.

 Congratulations and well done Jessica.

  1. I’ve followed her some. Adored the pictures she took rounding the Cape of Good Hope I think it was – incredible seeing that shadow of land from so long on the sea. But haven’t kept up as much as I might – so thanks for the update Sean.

And a big hooray for Jessica who did as she wanted to, and did it so well!
