THEN AND NOW

The spray and the cool wind wraps around me as the blue water and foam build up behind the ferry as we leave Circular Quay. I stand on the back deck whistling long and loud like the sailors of olden times when, in 1788, Sydney Cove was declared a British possession.

From that day when the first worker’s axe began to clear what must have been a paradise of brilliant blue water, sandy shores and shimmering trees Sydney was destined to be a major world city.
