In the forest the weather during the winter is cold, but generally the snow melts completely within a day or so. Fallen branches, needles and cones litter the floor where Alpaca calmly rest in the shade.

CROOKWELL AND THE ALPACA
This peaceful country town has plenty of historic buildings, charm and gets cold enough to have four distinct seasons.
The countryside can be ablaze with colour and with a relatively high altitude, in Australian terms, of 980 metres it is often covered with snow in winter times.
There are streams that are ideal for trout fishing or for trying your hand at fossicking for gold and sapphires.
Friendly, cute and curious are the words you would use to describe alpacas. My friend has a herd of about 70 on her property at Crookwell and they seemed happy and contented to just wander around the pasture.
Their faces are pretty, especially their eyes and eyelashes and their fleece is so soft and fine.
